About 9,000 tons of gold has been accumulated and stored in German households, which is three times the amount of gold stored in the Bundesbank. Thus, it can be said that at the beginning of April 2019 Germany accumulated 6.5% of the total world gold reserves amounting to more than 458,000 million euros.

German citizens' attachment to gold has a long history and is the usual financial strategy chosen to save savings in the long run and accumulate funds for retirement.

According to a survey conducted by the Steinbeis Financial Services Research Center at the request of Reisebank, by April 2019, German citizens had accumulated about 8.918 tons of gold in their homes, which is 246 tons more than in 2016.

As for the form of storage, 39% of citizens are in favor of leaving their gold in the vaults of the bank. In fact, the German stock broker Deutsche Boerse reported that by the end of 2018 there were about 181.5 tons of gold in its vaults.
