The recently published report of the US Geological Survey contains information on the import and export of gold in May and June of the current 2020. It shows how much of the yellow precious metal was imported into the country. For example, for the period May-June, 177.9 tons of gold were imported. The month of May stands out especially strongly with a volume of 136 tons. The same volume of precious metal was imported in April. But in June, imports fell by 41.9 tons.
In total, from January to June 2020 (1st half of the year) 399.7 tons of yellow precious metal were imported into the country. During the same period of time, 132.5 tons of gold were exported. Thus, net imports of precious metals have shown explosive growth since March this year. The main reason for the growth was the shortage of gold on the COMEX futures exchange in New York.
Which countries have become the main suppliers of gold to the United States? First of all, we are talking about Switzerland, where half of the investment gold in the world is processed thanks to three large refineries. According to the USGS, in May and June of this year, the Alpine Republic sent 91.1 tons of the yellow precious metal to the States. Another 23 tons. The USA received from Singapore, 14 tons each from Canada and South Africa, 10 tons from Hong Kong and 6.5 tons from Mexico.
