Serbian gold reserves increased by 7 tons since 2012 - Preview

As it became known recently, the gold reserves of Serbia have grown by 7 tons since 2012 and now amount to 20.8 tons. The head of the Central Bank of this Balkan country told about this.

"We will continue to work to strengthen the financial stability of Serbia. To do this, we are pursuing a policy of diversifying the country's international reserves, which reached a record level of 11.5 billion euros," says SeeNews portal, citing the state’s central bank.

According to media reports, Serbian President Alexander Vucic and Finance Minister Sinis Mali set a goal to increase Serbia’s gold reserves to 30 tons by the end of 2019, and by the end of 2020 it should grow to 40 tons.

According to the Serbian publication Vecernje Novosti, President Vucic held talks with representatives of the IMF on the continuation of purchases of gold for the country's reserves. The IMF supported his plans in this direction.

According to the World Gold Council, Serbia became the only southeastern country in Europe that increased its gold reserves in 2018: it grew from 19.5 tons in January to 20.4 tons in September.
